Enter the recipient’s phone number:
For UK numbers, start with 00 followed by the rest of the number..
For international numbers, start with 00, then add the country code.
Example:
For India, enter 00 + 91 and the rest of the number.
For Canada, enter 00 + 1 and the rest of the number.
Tap the Green Phone button to call.
If prompted, allow the app to make and manage phone calls in your phone settings.
Call Types: Choosing the Best Option for You
You have the power to choose the best call type based on your needs. Here’s how:
Open the Planet Talk App
Go to Settings
Tap "Change Call Type"
Select:
1. Local Call (Recommended for the Best Experience)
Uses a local access number—perfect if you have inclusive minutes from your mobile provider.
If you’re on PAYG or out of bundled minutes, your provider will charge you their per-minute landline rate.
2. Wi-Fi
Ideal if you don’t have inclusive minutes or if you’re traveling.
Ensure your Wi-Fi signal is strong and stable to avoid call drops.
Tip: Connect to a Wi-Fi hotspot for better call stability.
3. Mobile Data/Wi-Fi
Works similarly to Wi-Fi calling but uses your mobile data when Wi-Fi is unavailable.
Ensure you have enough mobile data to avoid interruptions.
Troubleshooting Common Call Issues
1. My Calls Aren’t Connecting
Ensure app permissions allow calls:
(Go to Settings > Permissions > Allow access to Microphone). If using Wi-Fi, check your internet connection. For better quality, switch to Local Access Number.
If you have an active VPN, turn it off and try again.
Using dual SIM? Ensure your registered number is set as the primary SIM. If issues persist, remove the second SIM and try again.
Confirm that you are not calling a premium number. Examples of these are numbers used for services like customer support, technical assistance, entertainment, and other paid services.
2. I Can’t Reach My Family in Eritrea
Double-check the dialling format:
00 + country code + mobile number (excluding the first 0).
Some local operators block international calls—confirm that the recipient can receive them.
3. I Topped Up, but I Can’t Make Calls
Check your balance to ensure the top-up was successful.
Verify that your call type is set correctly (Wi-Fi or Local Access Number).
5. The Call Rang but Disconnected
Check your internet connection if using Wi-Fi or mobile data.
If the issue persists, switch to Local Access Number for better quality.
6. I Called, but the Recipient Can’t Hear Me
Ensure microphone access is enabled: (Go to Settings > Permissions > Allow Microphone Access).
If using Wi-Fi, try switching to Local Access Number for better audio quality.
Confirm that the destination number’s location also has good network coverage.
